Deputy State Secretary for Global Affairs János Hóvári participated in the international conference „8th Forum for the Future” in Kuwait City on 21-22 November 2011. On the sidelines of the event, János Hóvári also held talks with Khalid Suleiman Al-Jarallah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait on the Hungarian-Kuwaiti relations.
Hungary -- with full support to the Statement by the spokesperson of EU High Representative Catherine Ashton on the elections in the breakaway region of South Ossetia in Georgia of 14 November 2011 -- does not recognise the constitutional and legal framework within which those elections were held.
Minister for Foreign Affairs János Martonyi will attend the EU Foreign Affairs Council Meeting of Development Ministers to be held in Brussels on 14 November. Raoul Wallenberg, honorary citizen of Budapest, rescuer of ten thousands of Hungarian citizens would be one hundred years old in 2012. At its session on 2 November 2011 the Government has taken a decision according to which, on the occasion of the centennial, Hungary shall duly commemorate the rescuer Swedish diplomat in the context of the Raoul Wallenberg Year. On this occasion we shall recall this tragic period of the past in Hungary and at our foreign representations, and we shall also commemorate the deeds of other rescuers besides Wallenberg.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary has learnt with deep sorrow about the recent death of Mrs Laura Pollán, founding member of the Cuban human rights activist movement ’Ladies in White’ (Dama de Blanco). Mrs Pollán’s persistent and uncompromising peaceful struggle for the liberation of the imprisoned political prisoners and for the respect of human rights has made her respected and appreciated worldwide.
Hungary welcomes that the Commission reported about the progress of nearly all the countries that are committed to joining the European Union. We also welcome the progress made by Serbia. However, the law on property restitution and compensation passed by the Serbian Parliament on September 26 is of grave concern to us.
