United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton received Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs János Martonyi in Washington DC. The aim of the meeting was to widen and deepen cooperation between the two countries as well as discuss global issues.
With respect to the banking union, Hungary supports the position according to which speed should not be to the detriment of quality – emphasized Enikő Győri, Minister of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responsible for European Affairs after the meeting of the General Affairs Council on 16th October 2012 in Luxembourg.
Szabolcs Takács, Deputy State Secretary for Global Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented Hungary at the Foreign Affairs Council meeting on Development on October 15, and participated at high-level meetings as part of the European Development Days. He also had discussion with the ministers in charge of development cooperation from the Visegrad countries.
The enlargement package presented by the European Commission last week confirmed Hungary’s position that the European Union remaining open to new members was a value that contributed to improving the competitiveness and the crisis management capacity of the Union, Parliamentary State Secretary Zsolt Németh declared before the parliamentary committee for European affairs on October 15.
Ministers of the Visegrád countries and Slovenia responsible for European integration and for cohesion policy adopted a joint declaration on the package of legislations dealing with the future of cohesion policy on 11-12th October 2012 in Katowice, Poland. Following the meeting, Enikő Győri, Minister of State for European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Visegrád countries and Slovenia together constitute a substantial force.
According to the Nobel Committee’s justification, the European Union, during its history of six decades contributed to promoting peace and human rights in Europe, and helped to transform Europe from a continent of war to a continent of peace.
Foreign Minister János Martonyi asserted that relations between the EU and ASEAN were developing laudably, and so were relations between Hungary and the ASEAN.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary has launched a series of international human rights conferences to be held annually under the name of “Budapest Human Rights Forum”.
Hungary congratulates the Georgian people for the parliamentary elections on 1 October 2012, which is widely considered as free and fair and despite minor irregularities reflects the will of the Georgian voters. Hungary commends the high level of participation, the professional and transparent administration and the peaceful transition of Government. These elections manifested Georgia’s commitment to the country’s democratic development and set an example for other countries in the region and in the wider Eastern European area.
Hungary welcomes that the Enlargement package, presented by the European Commission on 10 October confirmed progress in almost all countries aspiring to join the European Union.
