Foreign Minister János Martonyi received two of the executives of the Washington Holocaust Memorial Museum, Museum Director Sara Bloomfield and Director of the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies Paul Shapiro in his office on May 3. The parties reviewed the main issues related to the Jewish community in Hungary. Minister Martonyi provided detailed information on government measures aimed at combating intolerance.

Foreign Minister János Martonyi believes that it is difficult to put up a defence against accusations that are unfounded and general in nature, whereas concrete remarks can be properly addressed, and so Hungary is expecting a detailed explanation and reasoning from the European Commission about what its precise concerns are with respect to the fourth amendment of the Fundamental Law.

Hungary has assigned an ambassador to serve in Iraq for the first time in 22 years. Tibor Szatmári presented his credentials to Khudayr Musa Jafar Abbas al-Khuzai, the Vice President of Iraq, in Baghdad and will travel to the city on a regular basis until a permanent mission is established there.
