6th Budapest Human Rights Forum to take place in Budapest 7-8 november 2013

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary launched the annual Budapest Human Rights Forum in 2008, a series of international human rights conferences which provides the international community with the opportunity to exchange views in various domains of human rights.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Member States of the Central European Initiative (CEI) held their annual meeting in Gödöllő (Hungary) on 31 October 2013. The meeting was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, the 2013 Hungarian CEI Presidency, in cooperation with the CEI Executive Secretariat. The event was held back to back with the Visegrad Group + Western Balkans (WB) Foreign Ministers Meeting organised on 30-31 October in Gödöllő.

Hungary staunchly espouses the protection of human rights and privacy

The Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expects an immediate explanation from the United States in connection with a WikiLeaks report showing Budapest on a map of surveillance stations deployed by the National Security Agency (NSA). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) stated that it was concerned about the surveillance and relay stations and expected the US to clarify the situation and provide an explanation about what happened as soon as possible, as previously requested from the US Ambassador in Budapest. The MFA declared that Hungary staunchly espouses the protection of human rights, including the protection of privacy.

Deputy State Secretary Péter Wintermantel visits Japan

Deputy State Secretary for Global Affairs Péter Wintermantel paid a visit to Japan from 24 to 26 October. During his visit, Mr Wintermantel held consultations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Besides the official meetings, he also participated at the event celebrating 23 October, Hungary’s National Day.
