United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton received Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs János Martonyi in Washington DC. The aim of the meeting was to widen and deepen cooperation between the two countries as well as discuss global issues.
With respect to the banking union, Hungary supports the position according to which speed should not be to the detriment of quality – emphasized Enikő Győri, Minister of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responsible for European Affairs after the meeting of the General Affairs Council on 16th October 2012 in Luxembourg.
Szabolcs Takács, Deputy State Secretary for Global Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented Hungary at the Foreign Affairs Council meeting on Development on October 15, and participated at high-level meetings as part of the European Development Days. He also had discussion with the ministers in charge of development cooperation from the Visegrad countries.
The enlargement package presented by the European Commission last week confirmed Hungary’s position that the European Union remaining open to new members was a value that contributed to improving the competitiveness and the crisis management capacity of the Union, Parliamentary State Secretary Zsolt Németh declared before the parliamentary committee for European affairs on October 15.
Ministers of the Visegrád countries and Slovenia responsible for European integration and for cohesion policy adopted a joint declaration on the package of legislations dealing with the future of cohesion policy on 11-12th October 2012 in Katowice, Poland. Hungary regards it unacceptable and firmly condemns the shelling of the Turkish town of Akcale as a result of the violent acts along the Syrian-Turkish border on October 3, which has lead to the death of five local citizens, including children, and has caused serious injuries to many others.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) adopted a resolution voicing serious concerns about Iran’s nuclear program 14 September. Hungary as a member of the Board of Governors also voted in favor of the resolution.
