The Hungarian Foreign Ministry was shocked to learn of the verdict reached by the Ethics Committee of the Order of the "Star of Romania" on November 20, 2013 in which they found László Tőkés to be unsuited for holding on to the award.
European Semester: Minister of State Győri argues that national competences should not be curtailed

The so-called „European Semester” was elaborated with a view to ensuring closer economic cooperation between EU Member States, and it would not be proper if this process was burdened with out-of-scope issues, some of which fall under national and not EU competence – said Enikő Győri, MFA Minister of State in charge of EU Affairs, after the meeting of EU European Affairs Ministers on 19 November.

Australia Group meeting takes place in Budapest

The Inter-sessional Implementation Meeting and the New and Evolving Technologies Technical Experts Meeting of the Australia Group (AG), as well as an AG Dialogue Meeting with the participation of 100 experts, takes place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 18 to 22 November. For the first time in the history of the inter-sessional meetings, the AG will be especially devoted to dialogue with countries outside the group.

Szabolcs Takács, Political Director of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, paid a visit to London to meet his British counterpart Simon Gass and several foreign policy advisors to Prime Minister David Cameron. Following his meetings, Szabolcs Takács stated that Hungary and Britain shared many mutual interests, and that this had already become clear during Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s visit to Britain in early October.

Hungary staunchly espouses the protection of human rights and privacy

The Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expects an immediate explanation from the United States in connection with a WikiLeaks report showing Budapest on a map of surveillance stations deployed by the National Security Agency (NSA). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) stated that it was concerned about the surveillance and relay stations and expected the US to clarify the situation and provide an explanation about what happened as soon as possible, as previously requested from the US Ambassador in Budapest. The MFA declared that Hungary staunchly espouses the protection of human rights, including the protection of privacy.

During his visit, Mr Wintermantel held consultations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Besides the official meetings, he also participated at the event celebrating 23 October, Hungary’s National Day.
