The Tokaj Kereskedőház Zrt. (Tokaj Trading House Co.) has opened a representation in Tokyo that will also help promote the national image of Hungary.
Several months of preparatory work preceded the opening and without the help of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it would not have been possible, Export Manager of the Tokaj Trading House Béla Varga said in Tokyo.
Enhancing the presence and availability of Hungarian wines in Asia is part of the national image alongside economic targets – added Helga Gál, sommelier and gastronomic adviser of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who recently attended Hungarian wine culture events not only in Tokyo, but also in Beijing, Hong Kong and Australia.
High quality Aszú wines from the Tokaj Kereskedőház have been present on the Japanese market for years through Suzuki Corporation, which owns a plant in Esztergom. Now the state-owned winery is about to expand towards a wider consumer group by providing a wider range of products in the country. Quality wine consumption has become increasingly popular in recent years; as is becoming an increasingly important part of Asian gastronomic culture.
