The Wallenberg Memorial Committee, which was responsible for the coordination of the activities of the Wallenberg Year in Hungary, has held its final session on December 11.
Over the past year 17 official state events have been held, about 150 commemorations organized by Hungarian missions abroad, and numerous events hosted by local governments and NGOs under the aegis of Wallenberg Year 2012.
The Memorial Committee was led by Zsolt Németh, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Karin Olofsdotter, the Ambassador of Sweden in Hungary. In addition to members of the Wallenberg family, Zoltán Balog, Minister for Human Resources, Israeli Ambassador Ilan Mor, MP András Balogh, and MP András Schiffer also played an important role in the work of the committee.
Several government agencies and NGOs, among others the Holocaust Memorial Centre, the March of the Living Foundation, and the Raoul Wallenberg Association, also participated in the activities of the committee. State Secretary Zsolt Németh and Ambassador Karin Olofsdotter assessed the performance of the committee and expressed their gratitude to the participants at the final session of the Wallenberg Memorial Committee, where members received a memorial plaque from the two co-chairs of the committee.
