Secretary General of the European External Action Service, Pierre Vimont, announced to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Hungary that since 1 July 2012 the EU delegation in Tripoli has taken over local representation of the European Union from the Hungarian Embassy.

Vimont expressed his gratitude to Hungary, and in particular to the Head of Mission and his colleagues, with regard to the former’s success in carrying out all necessary work and in representing European values and interests during the most difficult period of the Libyan crisis. Hungary’s willingness to extend its mandate twice made it possible to ensure a European Union presence in the most unfavourable circumstances.

Hungary continues to represent Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom in Syria on the basis of bilateral agreements.
