Following the instructions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Ambassador Oszkár Füzes presented the position of the Government of Hungary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania concerning the questions raised by Romanian President Traian Băsescu at a summer free university gathering in Izvoru Mureșului.
Ambassador Füzes stated that Hungary was committed to regional stability, which naturally includes ensuring human rights as well as the rights of ethnic minorities. The Government of Hungary has consistently supported the democratically articulated demands of the Hungarian minority in Romania, which have been in agreement with European norms and practices. We also have a common interest in protecting ethnic communities, and Hungary is also open to constructive dialogue and cooperation in this area.
