The Government of Hungary learnt astonished that the US Mission in Benghazi, Libya was attacked, and the US Ambassador to Libya and three other American citizens lost their lives.
On behalf of the Government of Hungary and the Hungarian people the Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveys its condolences to the families of the deceased and expresses its sympathy with the staff of the US consulate in Benghazi.
We severely condemn the unjustifiable murderous attack, which caused the death of four American citizens who worked to support the democratic transformation in Libya.
Hungary undertook to represent the interests of the United States in Libya for several months in 2011 as a protective power. Hungary shares the grief and sorrow with the United States over the loss of American lives and maintains its unwavering commitment to the objectives it follows jointly with its Allies and with the Government of Libya in order to create a stable, democratic, and peaceful Libya.
Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs János Martonyi also sent a letter to US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, expressing the deepest condolences and sympathies of the Hungarian Government and the people of Hungary.
