The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary has learnt with deep sorrow about the recent death of Mrs Laura Pollán, founding member of the Cuban human rights activist movement ’Ladies in White’ (Dama de Blanco). Mrs Pollán’s persistent and uncompromising peaceful struggle for the liberation of the imprisoned political prisoners and for the respect of human rights has made her respected and appreciated worldwide.

Her seven-year struggle contributed considerably to the liberation of the dissidents imprisoned in 2003 during the so called Black Spring and drew the attention of the international public to the importance of human rights.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hereby expresses its sympathy to the family and friends of Mrs Pollán.
