Hungary’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed concern about the situation on the Crimean Peninsula and the massive Russian military manoeuvres.

In a statement issued 1 March 2014, the Ministry noted that on Friday the Visegrád Four Foreign Ministers had asked both the Kiev government leaders and the Donetsk region’s political leaders to abstain from provocative steps that may heighten tension and lead to violence.

The situation that has arisen on the Crimean Peninsula seriously endangers Ukraine’s territorial integrity as well as peace and security in the region, the ministry said, reaffirming Hungary’s commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Interior Ministry spokesman Tamás Csizmadia told MTI on Saturday that the operative unit set up to coordinate Hungarian measures concerning the Ukrainian conflict keeps assessing the situation and will take the required measures, if needed.
