MFA Minister of State for European Affairs Enikő Győri received Vojtěch Belling State Secretary for European Affairs of the Czech Republic in Budapest, on Friday. The purpose of the meeting was to prepare for the General Affairs Council next week and to discuss Member State positions on other EU affairs.
The two parties affirmed that both Hungary and the Czech Republic attach great significance to the cooperation of V4 countries in key EU issues. They discussed in detail the deepened Economic and Monetary Union, the creation of the Banking Union, as well as other open issues related to the Single Resolution Mechanism. The parties agreed that the decision on joining the Banking Union can only be made once all the relevant conditions are known.
With respect to the challenges affecting the Single Market, Ms Győri and Mr Belling agreed that maintaining the four freedoms, which are the main achievements of European integration, is of paramount importance and steps should be taken to stop any attempts that aim to restrict any of these.
