There is no way to renegotiate the free trade and association pact between the European Union and Ukraine and the EU will not provide financial compensation for the Ukraine, but it remains open to signing the agreement, Minister of Foreign Affairs János Martonyi said following the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels on Monday.

Mr Martonyi said that the European Commission had halted talks on how to implement the agreement on Sunday. He explained that the reason for this was that the Ukrainian President had called for those who negotiated an "unfavourable deal" to be held accountable. This fact made it doubtful for the EU that the Ukraine would still sign the agreement, the Hungarian Foreign Minister added.

The issue of the Ukraine was also discussed at the working lunch with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, said Mr Martonyi, adding that the discussion did not yield any particular results.
