Foreign Minister János Martonyi received Ankie Broekers-Knol, President of the Senate of the Netherlands in his office on Wednesday.

They discussed current EU issues including the upcoming European Parliament elections, the role of national parliaments and the questions of democratic legitimacy.  Mr Martonyi ensured Ankie Broekers-Knol that Hungary supported the Dutch proposal about refraining from increasing the European Commission’s scope of competences. At the same time he emphasized that the achievements of the European Union must be preserved.
