Deputy State Secretary for Global Affairs Szabolcs Takács announced that the Hungarian UN delegation’s main goal will be to promote the country’s initiative to organise an international conference on water management in Budapest by the end of 2013. The UN General Assembly begins its 67th session on Tuesday, 25 September and President of Hungary János Áder will also speak at the event.

The Deputy State Secretary said that the main topics will include Syria and the protests against the anti-Islam movie as well as recurring matters such as the protection of the rule of law, the peaceful settlement of conflicts and sustainable development.

Minister of Foreign Affairs János Martonyi will also attend the 67th session. He will hold bilateral talks with several of his counterparts as well as be present at the joint session of EU Foreign Ministers, collectively meeting US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Minister Martonyi will participate on a transatlantic dinner, the opening of the EU’s new representative office in New York, and a discussion on the deepening of the Central European region’s cooperation with the UN. Minister Martonyi will also be present at the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty’s signatory states meeting.
