The Hungarian government is committed to further increasing and strengthening Hungary’s honorary consular corps, Minister of Foreign Affairs János Martonyi said in Gödöllő September 16, 2013.
Addressing the 5th Conference of Honorary Consuls, Minister Martonyi said that Hungary, which cannot have a diplomatic mission in every country due to its limited resources, could not even perform basic diplomatic services without its honorary consuls, who exclusively represent the county in many countries.
Minister Martonyi told the 137 participants of the conference that only a part of Hungary’s honorary consuls are Hungarian or of Hungarian origin, adding the country was grateful to those without a Hungarian background for their devotion.
Minister of State Zsolt Németh said relations promoted by honorary consuls are „extremely important” for Hungary and related achievements are numerous.
