The participation of the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ) Romania's new government is very likely to improve the atmosphere of bilateral relations, Foreign Minister János Martonyi declared on Tuesday.

It is up to Transylvania's Hungarian community to decide whether or not to form a coalition with a Romanian party. If the RMDSZ decides that its participation in the governing coalition serves the interests of the Hungarian community, its decision should be respected, János Martonyi said.

Hungarian-Romanian relations are "in a transitional, lukewarm state; they have been better", but RMDSZ participation in the government "will most probably improve the atmosphere", the Hungarian Foreign Minister claimed.
