Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs János Martonyi and his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski reopened Hungary's consulate general in Cracow on Friday.
In addition to the symbolic importance of opening a consulate general in Cracow, the consulate general will have the mission to promote Hungarian small businesses in southern Poland, the Hungarian Foreign Minister declared.

The Hungarian Government decided to reopen the consulate general that was closed down in 2009, to serve the foreign policy objective of expanding the network of Hungary's diplomatic missions and developing further Hungarian-Polish political and economic ties. The two foreign ministers signed a bilateral agreement on visa facilitation which enables the two countries to issue visa for each other’s citizens in a third country where the other does not have a mission.
Minister Martonyi said they discussed possibilities of drawing more EU funding for the development of the EU's north-south infrastructure to include flights, a modern rail service and motorways to bring it to the level of the east-west infrastructure of the EU which is more advanced.
Before the opening ceremony took place, Mr Martonyi addressed an audience at the Jagiellonian University where he stressed the importance of the V4 cooperation. He said that there was no difference between Hungary's relations with Russia and the Visegrad Group's relations with Russia.
