Foreign Minister János Martonyi represented Hungary at the Croatia Summit, attended by high-ranking officials from the European Union and Balkan countries, held in Dubrovnik.

The primary aim of the international security policy conference in Croatia was to provide a forum for the leaders of Southeastern-European countries and the other participants for an exchange of views. The key topics of this year’s Croatia Summit were economic governance, security policy, and the European integration of the Western Balkans.

The head of Hungarian diplomacy emphasised after the event that the primary aim of the conference was to give a new impetus for Croatia’s EU accession talks and to send the message that the EU enlargement process would continue beyond Croatia’s accession. This would provide a perspective to other countries as well, while at the same time acting as the most important stabilising factor, as pointed out by the foreign ministers of the European Union and Western Balkan countries at their Sarajevo meeting on June 2.

After the summit, on Sunday, Mr Martonyi attended a commemoration in Potocari, at the memorial site near Srebrenica, marking the 15th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre.
