Hungary welcomes that China, France, Germany, Russia, the United States, and the United Kingdom reached an agreement with Iran on the implementation of the Joint Plan of Action (JPOA) in Geneva on January 10, 2014. Hungary also welcomes the report issued by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about Iran complying with the stipulations of the JPOA, and is pleased with the fact that Teheran has been fulfilling its commitments concerning the gradual restriction of its nuclear program.

On January 20, the EU foreign ministers made a decision about temporarily lifting some of the sanctions that had been imposed, just as the United States had lifted certain sanctions against Iran. As a consequence, the negotiations on reaching a comprehensive agreement can be started in the coming weeks.

We express our hope that Iran will continue to comply with the requirements of the JPOA and steps forward will be taken that will create an opportunity for formulating a comprehensive and long-term agreement.
