The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary welcomes the deal to end the domestic crisis in Ukraine signed on February 21. We express our hope that this will put an end to the bloodshed and life can return back to normal in Ukraine. It is most important that both sides abide by the agreement so that the political and constitutional conditions for resolving the crisis can be established.
Hungary has been shocked by the acts of violence that were committed in Ukraine over the past days. We express our condolences to the families of the victims regardless of whether they were protesters or belonged to law enforcement. We wish a complete and speedy recovery to those who have been injured over the past days.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary offers prompt financial aid, of HUF 2 million, for the treatment of those injured, and will transfer the sum, in cooperation with the Hungarian Ecumenical Charity Organization, to those in need. In addition, Hungary is ready to receive seriously injured patients for medical treatment.
We express our hope that the deal signed today will also have a positive impact on the situation of the Hungarian community in the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine since their security and their ability to freely exercise their rights guaranteed by Ukrainian law and European agreements are most important for Hungary.
Hungary will offer all possible forms of assistance to settle the Ukrainian political and economic dilemmas. Creating a stable, peaceful and economically prosperous Ukraine with complete territorial integrity and with excellent relations to the European Union is a fundamental interest of Hungary. Hungary, along with all EU member states, follows with utmost attention the developments in Ukraine.
