Hungary's Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi stated in Brussels on 29 November that Hungary will abstain in the vote later today in the United Nations Assembly. The vote will be held to determine whether or not the Palestinian Authority should become a non-member observer state.

Minister Martonyi said that the Hungarian Government supports a solution in the Middle East crisis, which would lead to two independent states, and does not feel that this proposal is the appropriate, efficient way to advance the peace process. The Minister has stressed that Hungary was in favor of formulating a common EU position.
