The Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will ship the water purification equipment supplied by Budapest Municipal Waterworks to Cebu in the Philippines, to assist those living in the areas devastated by Typhoon Haiyan.
The Budapest Municipal Waterworks will be sending six experts, along with five volunteers from the Hungarian Red Cross, to a region especially hit by Typhoon Haiyan within the framework of the civil protection assistance mechanism of the European Union. The aim of the mission is to provide safe drinking water, and thereby to remedy the most significant problems in the region.
The Hungarian Red Cross will be acting on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary to guarantee the security of the Hungarian unit, while also carrying mobile shelters and telecommunications equipment. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has undertaken to cover the expenses of the water purification equipment and the eleven-person team, while the Budapest Municipal Waterworks and the Hungarian Red Cross have offered to cover the expenses of their supplies and accomodation.
