Hungary considers Pakistan an important partner in its goal to build strong relations with the Asian nations, the Political Director of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in an interview to Pakistan’s The Express Tribune, published on 24 February 2014.

Mr Takács told the English-language daily on the occasion of his recent visit to Pakistan that the two countries’ officials usually meet annually but they now seek to “elevate” their meetings to a higher level.

Mr Takács pointed our the Hungarian Government’s foreign affairs strategy of Opening to the East, under which it is seeking to “re-launch and rejuvenate” ties with a number of countries around the world, especially in Asia and the Middle East.

The Political Director also drew attention to bilateral cooperation in technology transfer, agriculture and the pharmaceuticals sector, but most notably, in the energy sector, including the 15-year presence of Hungarian oil and gas company MOL in Pakistan.
