The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary calls upon Sudan to withdraw a sentence under which a woman charged with apostasy would be executed.
The Ministry also calls upon the Sudanese party to observe fundamental human rights in terms of religious freedoms, in line with international human rights agreements Sudan is signatory of.
The 27 year-old pregnant woman was sentenced to death by a Khartoum court despite protests from several western embassies that called on Sudanese authorities to respect the right to freedom of religion.
Amnesty International has reported that the woman, who has since given birth, and her twenty-month-old son are being kept behind bars.
She was raised as a Christian by her Orthodox Christian mother after the Muslim father left the family. She has married a Christian man from South Sudan and refused the court’s order to recant her faith.
