Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs János Martonyi and his Croatian counterpart Vesna Pusic have agreed to settle the issue of Hungarian oil and gas company MOL and its Croatian counterpart by means of dialogue; however, if talks fail to yield a solution, MOL will decide whether or not to sell its stake in INA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday.
Minister Martonyi informed Minister Pusic of the Hungarian Government’s position on the matter at a meeting in Montenegro on Friday. The Hungarian party does not wish for there to be any source of tension in Hungarian–Croatian relations, and if MOL’s stake in INA prevents this, then the best solution would be to separate the two business partners in a civilised manner.
Minister Martonyi stressed that the question falls solely within MOL’s sphere of influence as a company.
The Hungarian Minister also underlined at the meeting that, in accordance with European practice, the Hungarian Government cannot interfere with the enforcement of a European arrest warrant, as this lies within the sole scope of authority of the court.
