On the last day of his official trip to Israel Minister of Foreign Affairs János Martonyi visited the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot.

He was greeted in Hungarian by Andrea Svejka, the institute's director of international relations, who noted her family's Hungarian origin. Vice President Chaim Garty briefed Mr Martonyi about the institute's work and pointed out past and present Nobel-laureate colleagues. He informed the Hungarian Foreign Minister about the difficulties in conducting scientific cooperation with the European Union.

The world-renowned institute has cooperation ties with Budapest's ELTE University, and Mr Martonyi's visit served to explore further cooperation possibilities with institutions in Hungary. He also met with eight Hungarian scholars who work in the areas of medical science, biochemistry and chemistry.
