During his official visit to Bratislava, Foreign Minister János Martonyi held meetings with Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič, Prime Minister Robert Fico and Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák on March 13.
After the talks, the Hungarian Minister highlighted that topical European issues, in light of the upcoming European Union summit this week were discussed with the Slovak Prime Minister. On the other hand, Foreign Minister Martonyi added, the meeting with President Gašparovič focussed on areas recently discussed between the Slovak President and his Hungarian counterpart President Áder, including "sensitive" issues.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister also met with leaders of the Hungarian Coalition Party (MKP) for talks on the situation of ethnic Hungarians in Slovakia, including language use, education, and dual citizenship.
Earlier in the day, Minister Martonyi had talks with Miroslav Lajčák, his Slovak counterpart, and reviewed joint projects, as well as regional and European issues and "sensitive" matters such as dual citizenship. Following their meeting, both foreign ministers agreed that the advancement of high-level political relations had been exceptionally intensive over the past year, which indicated that bilateral relations had acquired a higher quality.
