Szabolcs Takács, Deputy State Secretary for Global Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented Hungary at the Foreign Affairs Council meeting on Development on October 15, and participated at high-level meetings as part of the European Development Days. He also had discussion with the ministers in charge of development cooperation from the Visegrad countries.
The Foreign Affairs Council made decisions about the EU providing support to developing countries, about the report on implementing the EU development and foreign relations policy, and about the role played by civil society in the EU development policy.
They had a debate to prepare the post Millenium Development Goals/2015 framework and the follow-up to the Rio+20 summit. They also discussed the sharing of experience related to democratic transition within the framework of EU development policy and the EU approach to resilience.
The development ministers confirmed that the EU must represent a unified position at each international forum during the course of elaborating the post-2015 development goals. The Hungarian delegation drew attention to the preparation of the conference in Hungary, - in cooperation with UN – addressing international issues of water management and sanitation.
