Cultural ties are the solid core of relations between France and Hungary, Gergely Prőhle, Deputy State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in Paris on Thursday.

Mr Prőhle attended an event commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries, where he pointed out that prior to this, cultural institutes were already operating in both countries.

Mr Prőhle had talks with David Kessler, the cultural advisor to French President Hollande, and asked for support regarding a recently opened French centre at Szeged University. He also met Senator Michel Billout who last year prepared a report on the Hungarian government's reforms following a visit to Hungary, heading the delegation of the French Senate's Hungarian-French Friendship Group.
