On June 6, Hungarian Ambassador-At-Large for Energy Security Anita Orbán attended a committee hearing at the European Parliament (EP), at the invitation of former President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek, which focused on progress in energy market integration.

At the request of the EP Committee for Industry, Research and Energy Ambassador-At-Large Anita Orbán gave a briefing on the achievements of the Hungarian-Czech lead Danube Strategy Energy Priority Area over the past two years.

Ambassador Anita Orbán, who is also the coordinator for the Danube Strategy Energy Priority Area, stressed the significance of the Danube Region Gas Market Model, which has been developed over the past two years. The Danube Region Gas Market Model includes the market impact analysis of lacking regional gas infrastructure projects, a priority list and a joint regional position. In her briefing, Anita Orbán stressed that it was necessary to speed up the establishment of connections between the energy markets of EU and non-EU countries.

The Hungarian Ambassador-At-Large for Energy Security pointed out that the lacking infrastructure developments must be completed in order to implement internal EU energy market integration, an objective that was adopted during the Hungarian EU Presidency. She also urged for the removal of non-infrastructural obstacles that impede market integration.
