The work of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team (HUN PRT) is a significant contribution to the positive image of what the Regional Command North and the ISAF troops are doing in Baghlan Province, Maj.-Gen. Erich Pfeffer, the commander of the Afghanistan-based International Security Assistance Forces Regional Command North (ISAF RC N) said on his visit to the Hungarian camp.
On his first official visit to Camp Pannonia, Maj. Erich Pfeffer was briefed by PRT Commander Lt.-Col. János Somogyi on the completed missions of the Hungarian contingent, the security situation in Baghlan Province and the CIMIC and other development projects in progress. They discussed the disaster which is presently striking the province and the Hungarian assistance with the flood control operations.
At the meeting, the commander of the HUN PRT – together with political advisor (POLAD) Dr. József Nyerki – informed the guest about the Hungarian standpoint on the transition. Erich Pfeffer stressed that strategic communication is a key element in the transition process. It is important to make the Afghan people understand the necessity of transition. He said the joint formulation and coordinated transmission of the relevant messages were high priorities.
Provincial governor Monshi Abdul Maiid also joined the discussion, and spoke highly of the successful cooperation between ISAF and the Afghan forces. He pointed to the role of the HUN PRT in this cooperation and in paving the way for the transition-related works. “This joint work and close coordination go a long way towards implementing transition in the province. Stability is important for Afghan people, and it cannot be achieved without a strong government”, the governor emphasized.
At the end of his visit Maj.-Gen. Erich Pfeffer noted that although the HUN PRT is a relatively small organization, its work is a significant contribution to the positive image of what the RC N and the ISAF troops are doing in Baghlan province.
