The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence have been shocked to hear that unknown perpetrators desecrated the monument to the airmen of the United States Air Force in Szigliget, whose aircraft crashed in World War II.
Both ministries condemn this sacrilegious act of vandalism in the strongest possible terms. The soldiers killed in action at the village by the shore of Lake Balaton are pilot First Lieutenant Robert G. Evans, gunner Staff Sergeant Horace G. Barksdale, engineer Sergeant Cecil R. Boles, radio operator Sergeant Guy Marsh, Jr. and gunner Staff Sergeant Walter W. Rowe. Our moral obligation is to keep their memory alive in a deserved way.
