The example of the 2nd Hungarian Army shows that many times the bodily weak and our defenceless fellow human beings were the greatest force, the carriers of the spiritual and mental power of Hungarian people” – Tamás Vargha, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence said in Sárospatak on February 7.
Municipal leaders, representatives of local NGOs and re-enactment organizations as well as several local students commemorated the tragedy of the Royal Hungarian 2nd Army at the WWI memorial of Sárospatak, which immortalizes a Hungarian soldier throwing a grenade.
After a common prayer by the historical churches, the commemorators paid tribute to the heroes of the past during a wreath-laying ceremony.
