At the meeting of EU defence ministers in Luxemburg on Tuesday, April 15, the countries of the Defence Cooperation Initiative (DECI) signed a memorandum of understanding on forming an EU battle group by the first half of 2017. Minister of Defence Csaba Hende signed the document on behalf of Hungary.
In the memorandum of understanding, defence ministers of Hungary, Austria, Croatia, Italy and Slovenia – the countries of the Defence Cooperation Initiative – state that the battle group would be set up on the basis of the Italy-led Multinational Land Force (MLF).
Hungary is also involved in setting up a V4 EU battle group. The cooperation of the Visegrád Four countries is currently focusing on the preparations for this jointly formed EU battle group, which will be on stand-by in the first half of 2016.
