The Ministry for National Economy is launching two new employment programmes: the Road to Your Job ("Út a szakmaválasztáshoz") scheme assists young people with social disadvantages in finding a profession, and another programme will help local governments to employ students during the summer vacation period.
Informing tourists on the flood situation

Owing to the flood situation, the Tourism Deputy State Secretariat of the Ministry for National Economy and the Budapest Festival and Tourism Centre Nonprofit Ltd. join forces to provide up-to-date information for tourists visiting Budapest. To ensure that visitors to the city have access to all relevant information while the flood abates, the Ministry, which is also responsible for tourism, will collaborate with the Municipality’s tourism marketing and cultural events management company to ensure that the latest developments concerning transport, tourist attractions and hotels are always available to the public.

First quarter GDP up by 0.7 percent, in line with expectations

According to the latest report by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office, in Q1 2013 Hungarian GDP – in line with prior estimates – increased by 0.7 percent in comparison to the previous quarter, which figure is the result of outstanding, 27.6 percent growth in agricultural output and the 1.5 percent expansion of the construction sector.

Europe’s recovery is essential for Hungarian economic expansion

At the press conference organised to evaluate the Government’s economic policy over the past three years, Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga said that the Hungarian Government and Brussels are also expecting economic growth to be about 1.5% for 2014, which is a realistic estimate, but if Europe succeeds in emerging from the recession, increased exports will mean even greater growth for Hungary. The Government has laid the foundations for economic growth, but Hungarian growth cannot be expected to pick up without an upswing in Europe, Minister Varga said.
Twenty-year record in women’s employment

Last year was an outstanding one from the aspect of women’s employment: their employment rate exceeded 52 percent, which has been unprecedented in the past twenty years, Ministerial Commissioner Piroska Szalai, responsible for improving the labour market prospects of women, said at a press conference in Budapest.
