The Foundation, which pays homage to the former president of the National Media and Info-communications Authority, considers it as its main mission to achieve the objectives identified by Annamária Szalay – especially the protection of children and youth against the adverse effects of electronic media, the founders of the organization and the president of the curators’ board said at a press conference in Budapest.

Minister for National Economy and President of the curators’ board of the Annamária Szalay Media Foundation stressed that the former Fidesz party fellow member had consistently focused on the priority of protecting youth and improving their knowledge of the media.

The Minister called it an important development that – instead of a state institution – a civil initiative will implement these objectives. As he emphasised, the Foundation – in accordance with Annamária Szalay’s ethos, – is based on Christian and national values as well as on Hungarian-speaking media across the border. He also said that on 15 March, the Day of Press Freedom in Hungary, the Foundation will award scholarships in order to assist the activities of those who help fulfil the organization’s goals.

Balázs Szalai, the brother of the decesed stated that not long before her passing away, Ms Szalay changed the writing of her name, which is the reason why the foundation also writes it with ’y’.
