The Hungarian Defence Forces Kabul International Airport Force Protection Contingent (HDF KAIA FPC) is going to end its activity in October in Afghanistan, Gen. Dr. Tibor Benkő, the Chief of the Defence Staff said during a background conversation held in Budapest on Tuesday, September 3.
Two EOD dogs are deployed in Afghanistan to help the work of the soldiers serving there with the HDF Kabul International Airport Force Protection Contingent (HDF KAIA FPC).
Mónika, the Afghan stray dog has a new master. As a puppy, in 2010 she joined a Hungarian military patrol in Afghanistan. The soldiers took the friendly and faithful dog with them to the camp, where the Hungarian and American troops kept her as “watchdog and soulmate” for years. The dog was “discharged” this June, and a great many people volunteered to adopt her, so it was really difficult to choose the suitable candidate from among the numerous dog-lovers.

On the initiative of the deputy medical chief of the ISAF Regional Command North (RC-N) Medical Directorate, a first responder training course was recently organized for members of the Afghan Border Police (ABP). Drawn from the personnel of the HDF 86th Szolnok Helicopter Base, the rotations of the Mi–17 Air Advisory Team (AAT) train and mentor the helicopter pilots, flight engineers, door gunners and ground crews of the Afghan Air Force in four-month cycles.
The contingent of the Hungarian Defence Forces serving at Shindand Air Base in Herat Province, Afghanistan, has been performing its duties professionally since August 2011. The soldiers of the Mi–17 Air Advisory Team (AAT) are drawn from the HDF 86th Szolnok Helicopter Base – currently the sixth rotation is training and mentoring the rotary-wing and ground crews of the Afghan Air Force. The Hungarian soldiers completing their tour of duty were bidden farewell at a medal parade in Mazar-e Sharif, Afghanistan. Over the last more than six months, most soldiers serving in individual positions have worked in an international environment rather than with Hungarian colleagues.
Due to their service duties, the soldiers of the HDF Kabul International Airport Force Protection Contingent (HDF) KAIA FPC) celebrated the anniversary of the foundation of the Hungarian state (August 20) on August 21.

To this end, the HDF Kabul International Airport Force Protection Contingent (HDF KAIA FPC) recently gave donation to a school in the area of the base, in order to contribute to the security of the civilians and international military coalition forces working at the airport.
