Some soldiers from the first rotation of the HDF Military Advisor Team (HDF MAT) spent their free time in a useful way at Camp Mike Spann on Friday, September 13.

Friday, or Juma is the Afghan people’s weekly day off, when they spend their free time with resting and visiting relatives. Some members of the HDF MAT spent this day with renovating the mission’s memorial column that had been made at the time of the HDF OMLT-4 rotation and has since been undeservedly forgotten and thrown aside.

The upper part of the column, which is like a wooden board, was made with a carved-in motif on it, and received a fitting red-white-green painting. The signposts show the names of Hungarian garrisons where the soldiers currently serving with the MAT have come from, while the body of the column shows the names and distances of Hungarian towns which contributed troops to previous missions. The red-white coloring on the mid-lower part represents Ohio State, and above it are the names of the former and current bases of the mission.
