In late August, the service members of the HDF Kabul International Airport Force Protection Contingent (HDF KAIA FPC) achieved outstanding results at the international sports competition organized in the camp.
Due to the heat and other complicating circumstances like wearing body armor, the Hungarian soldiers must have great endurance in order to be able to carry out their force protection duties at the airport, and doing sports is the best way for them to keep fit or even build their endurance. The sports facilities inside the camp provide several opportunities for exercising. It was in Kabul that the members of the second rotation of the HDF KAIA FPC gave CrossFit a try for the first time, and this sport became immediately popular with the soldiers.
CrossFit is an American system which ranks among the most complex and demanding forms of movement, and is becoming a widely known and popular kind of sport. It is designed to help people develop a kind of functional strength which they can use in their day-to-day life too, since this type of movement not only helps them achieve perfect physical condition but also builds their mental endurance. This kind of sport does not need much equipment, and the more creative ones can even do a “Workout of the Day” (WOD) without any equipment in the gym or in the open.
To comply with the rulebook of the competition, the team organized by the Hungarian soldiers was complemented with an American girl, and came in second among the eight teams entering the contest. This is an outstanding result because the only team that beat them was composed of coaches.
