After a tournament victory won by the football team of the HDF Kabul International Airport Force Protection Contingent (HDF KAIA FPC) in last December, the Hungarian soldiers serving at KAIA can now take pride in another sporting success.
The KAIA CrossFit team championship was organized in three categories on April 5. Two Hungarian service members entered the competition in the “Scaled” category as members of the “Hungarian Warriors” team. Both of them serve on the staff of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps-Italy Headquarters (NRDC-ITA HQ) in Afghanistan, where they work in the Operations Centre of the ISAF Joint Command (IJC).
Altogether nine teams entered the contest in the “Scaled” category. During the competition, the teams demonstrated their quickness, endurance, physical strength and skills in three Works of the Day (WOD). The Hungarian pair won the first WOD by a large margin and was the runner-up in the execution of the other two WODs, so it won the competition overall by five scores.
The members of the Hungarian team have been into the CrossFit branch of sport for two years. They have been pursuing it under the guidance of an American lieutenant-colonel who also serves in Italy and is a qualified coach. With this success, their hard and persistent work has borne fruit.
