Khilagay, Baghlan Province
- Currently the eighth rotation of the OMLT is serving in Afghanistan.
- The mandate of the contingent has been extended to run until the end of December 2013.
- The OMLT-8 is made up of 53 Hungarian and 12 US soldiers.
- Since the end of April 2009, the Hungarian-led OMLT has been providing operational training for the Baghlan-based 3rd battalion of the 2nd brigade of the 209th ANA Corps in Khilagay barracks, south of Pol-e Khomri. The Hungarian personnel of the OMLT perform their duties in cooperation with the soldiers of the US Ohio National Guard.
- While mentoring the Afghan battalion, the Hungarian and US soldiers of the OMLT have been continuously supervising the activity of the unit. Accordingly, the OMLT members are present during the Afghan soldiers’ task execution and patrolling.
- The OMLT evaluates the performance of the Afghan unit on each occasion and integrates the lessons learned into the training program.
- After 60 years, Hungarian soldiers have been serving in the line of duty again under combat circumstances.
- In August 2012, the troop level of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) reached 340,000 personnel.
- Our main objective is to train and prepare the Afghan National Army for autonomous and effective task execution. Our objective is to enable the government of Afghanistan to maintain security in the country by itself.
