- The soldiers of the Hungarian Defence Forces are currently performing the Force Protection duties on the military side of the Kabul International Airport (the gateway to Afghanistan), which is strategically important for the ongoing NATO ISAF operation.
- Two Hungarian colonels are serving in the lead nation staff of the Kabul International Airport.
- This is the third time that Hungary has assumed a role in the smooth running of “the gateway to Afghanistan”. It assumed the lead nation role first between October 2008 and March 2009, and then between October 2010 and March 2011.
- The Kabul International Airport Force Protection Contingent performs its duties to ensure the smooth running of the Kabul International Airport and logistic hub, which is very important for the NATO-led operation.
