Hungary adds extra 10 billion forints to healthcare budget

The Hungarian Government has increased this year’s healthcare budget by 10 billion forints (EUR 32.3 million) for the 2014 healthcare budget, Minister for Human Resources Zoltán Balog said at a press conference on Monday. He added that the extra money will go to general practitioners, health visitors and dentists. Minister of State for Healthcare Miklós Szócska added that compared to 2009 the budget for basic healthcare was 30 billion forints (EUR 96.9 million) higher, representing a 25 percent increase.

Government to spend HUF 10 billion on education infrastructure

The Hungarian Government will spend 10 billion forints (EUR 32.1 million) on improving public education infrastructure, of which 3 billion forints each (EUR 9.62 million) will go towards building swimming pools, gymnasiums and classrooms, and one billion (EUR 3.21 million) will be spent on kindergartens, Minister for Human Resources Zoltán Balog said on Friday at a press conference in the northeast Hungarian town of Diósgyőr.

Academy of Sciences launches sign language study

The Linguistics Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) announced on Wednesday that it will launch a 334 million forint (EUR 1.06 million) study to unify Hungarian sign language, so that it may be introduced into the education system by 2017, as stipulated by a 2009 law.

Renovation of the Institute for the Blind begins in Budapest

The 716 million forint (EUR 2.3 million) renovation of the State Institute for the Blind has begun, Minister of State for Social and Family Affairs Miklós Soltész announced at a press conference on Tuesday. He said the complete external-internal renovation will also include the modernisation of the heating system, the replacement of doors and windows and new furniture.

Hungary aims to increase the number of breast screenings by 10 percent this year, Minister of State for Healthcare Miklós Szócska said on Friday at a press conference in Székesfehérvár, central Hungary. Attendance of organised breast screenings was low and women had to be made more aware of the importance of this preventive measure, he declared.
