On 9 October, Foreign Minister János Martonyi held a meeting with Speaker of Serbian Parliament Nebojša Stefanović, who is in Hungary to hold bilateral talks and take part in the meeting of Speakers of Parliament from the Western Balkans and Hungary.
The two sides agreed that Hungarian-Serbian relations are excellent, and are characterised by high level of trust. Mr. Martonyi pointed out that the process of reconciliation with relation to the past, and particularly the Second World War, had played an important role in advancing friendly relations. He recalled that Hungarian President János Áder and Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić had commemorated the Hungarian and Serbian victims of the Second World War together. At their meeting, Foreign Minister Martonyi and Mr. Stefanović discussed the issue of Serbia’s European integration.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister declared that making the Central European dimension more inclusive was a common goal, adding that Central Europe could play a significant role in the coming decades, including with regard to the EU integration process.
