Deputy State Secretary Gergely Prőhle paid an official visit to Slovenia on January 28, where he held talks with Igor Senčar, State Secretary in charge of EU Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tone Kajzer, State Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office in charge of foreign relations and economic diplomacy, and Tadej Rupel, Director-General for European Policies.

The priorities of the Hungarian Presidency in the Central European Initiative (CEI) and in the Visegrad Cooperation (V4), the current European issues and bilateral relations were the main topics of the talks. The parties agreed that the Central European region must be made more salient both politically and economically; moreover, they expressed their willingness to cooperate in representing the common interests of the two countries in all forums including the EU.

Both parties regarded the development of transport infrastructure and economic relations as vital for the advancement of the region. The Slovenian side ensured its support for Hungary’s CEI Presidency and showed readiness to take part in the V4 cooperation. The advancement of bilateral relations – especially in the energy sector – was welcomed by both sides. Hungary and Slovenia agreed to keep paying particular attention to the two nations’ minority respectively.
