Minister of Defence Dr Csaba Hende paid a two-day visit to Cyprus where he met the Hungarian contingent of UNFICYP and had talks with Defence Minister Kostas Papakostas.
It was the first occasion the Cyprian and the Hungarian Ministers of Defence met.
The main topics discussed at the talks were the situation in Cyprus, the Hungarian participation on mission and the Hungarian soldiers’ accomplishment. During the discussions the ministers also exchanged views on the issues concerning Hungary’s upcoming EU presidency. Following the talks the Hungarian delegation travelled to Nicosia to UNFICYP HQ to meet the head of mission.
Afterwards Minister of Defence visited the Hungarian contingent in Athienou and travelled to Goshi to lay wreaths at the monument dedicated to three Austrian UN soldiers killed during an air raid in 1974.
