European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs Olli Rehn called the latest economic measures of the Hungarian Government promising, Minister of National Economy Mihály Varga stated on Tuesday. The Minister is currently participating at the Economic and Financial Affairs Council with his European counterparts in Brussels.

He emphasised that though the excessive deficit procedure was not on the meeting’s agenda, during the break he had a chance to talk with Olli Rehn, who said that he is familiar with the steps announced on Friday. The Commissioner stated that his colleagues had already analysed the measures and called them promising. Minister Varga highlighted that at the end of May it will become clear whether or not the EDP against Hungary can be lifted.
